Few artists in the underground hip-hop scene demonstrate the dedication and innovation of Advantz’d. Renowned for his skill in blending Lo-Fi, boom-bap, and experimental sounds, Advantzd has carved out a unique and captivating niche for himself. We recently spoke with him about his journey, artistry, and vision for the future.
The Origin of Advantz’d
When asked how he would describe himself and his music, Advantz’d explained, “I gave myself the name Advantz’d because it reflects who I’ve become after dedicating so much time to honing my craft. My genre is an amalgamation of hip-hop’s different aspects. I pull from Lo-Fi, boom bap, and the underground sound as a whole. It’s a lot of obscure samples and off-kilter, unquantized drums, but done in my own way.” This unique and intriguing approach showcases his deep appreciation for the genre while pushing its boundaries.

From NJ to Philly
Advantzd’s musical roots are as diverse as his sound. Born in New Jersey and raised in Philadelphia until middle school, his experiences across various parts of Pennsylvania have significantly shaped his music. “The early to mid-high school period was pivotal for me,” he shared. “That’s when I discovered artists like DOOM, Dilla, and Madlib, who introduced me to new styles and encouraged me to think outside the box. From there, I delved deeper into the hip-hop world.”
A Night to Remember
Out of all his performances, one stands out: his show at Interzone on December 7th. “It was the biggest crowd I’ve played in front of,” he recalled fondly. “I shared the bill with incredible talents like Super Jack, Kaiser Unique, Awilealone, Te Vista, and Simon Feral. That night was unforgettable.” Fortunately we caputered the one of his shows on our YouTube.
Advantzd and the Live Music Scene
When discussing the current state of live music, Advantzd’s outlook is optimistic. “From what I’ve seen, the live music scene is thriving. There’s a strong sense of community, especially in the underground scene. These communities are only growing stronger.” While he prefers to stay in his own creative world rather than follow trends, his enthusiasm for the scene’s vibrancy is unmistakable.

Collaboration and Inspiration
Advantzd has had the privilege of working with a host of talented artists. “Super Jack, Kaiser Unique, Wiseboy Jeremy, OJ Mountain, Lex Isle, and the entire Flip a Beat Club community in Philadelphia are incredible. Collaborating with these artists has been a highlight, and there’s more good stuff in the works,” he teased.
